A&DO – Learning Centre for Architecture and Design

What is A&DO?

Architecture and design belong to everyone, and we are constantly surrounded by them. A&DO – Learning Centre for Architecture and Design is a joint project co-managed by the Museum of Finnish Architecture and Design Museum Helsinki. The project seeks to make information, competence and professionals of architecture and design available to all interested parties.

By doing so, we seek to improve the understanding that Finns have of architecture, design and environmental planning. The tools of architecture and design learning are used in the process. The project simultaneously seeks to develop the activities of the museums. Good living environment, shared planning efforts and accessibility are important topics of the project.

A&DO – Learning Centre for Architecture and Design will be further developed in 2020–2023. The Finnish Cultural Foundation has granted the project the ‘Museovisio’ grant. The Learning Centre will later become an integral part of Helsinki’s new Architecture and Design Museum. The project will also contribute to establishing a network of architecture and design educators which will cover the whole country.

Who are in the target group of A&DO?

We all use built and designed environments and are, as such, their best experts. We can solve problems, whether big or small. Are you involved in teaching, development, are you a professional or an ordinary citizen? We have just the materials for architecture and design education you might be interested in.

Wonder. Play. Experiment. Explore.

We want to develop our activities with you.

So please tell us what you think: .

What does A&DO offer?

A&DO Lab – Good Neighbourhood

A&DO Lab is a touring learning environment and exhibition focused on themes of design and architecture. The exhibition space located in two containers challenges you think of what kind of architecture and design promotes high-quality everyday life and sustainable development. In the future, what kind of an environment would you like to live in? What are the features of a good local environment?

The goal of this exhibition is to encourage you to take a critical look in your environment.

The nation-wide A&DO Lab exhibition will tour Finland in 2021–2023. We will start in Lahti. The Lab will first visit the Malski Square in Lahti during 30 August to 30 September 2021. Next, you will find us in the Finlayson area in Tampere in the spring of 2022. You can also explore the Lab exhibition virtually with the materials available on this website.

Seminar

The national level A&DO seminar on architecture and design learning will be organized every autumn. The first seminar will take place in Tampere in October 2021. The seminar will offer a complete overview of creative and critical approaches to architecture and design.

Both Finnish and international cases will be examined. The seminar’s working methods include workshops where participants can get actively involved.

The 2021 A&DO Seminar programme, detailed schedule and registration information will be published on 1 August 2021.
